The Brandon University men’s volleyball team is on the playoff bubble going into a critical home-and-home series against the Wesmen, which starts in Winnipeg on Wednesday night.
The Bobcats are tied with the U-of-W and the Saskatchewan Huskies for the seventh and final playoff spot in Canada West.
"There’s nothing to lose now. We’re kind of playing catch-up, we’ve put our self in this situation. We were in it kind of last year. For me and the returnees we kind of know now is the time to get going," libero Jeremy Davies told CKLQ’s Tyler Crayston. "Previously we’ve been having trouble after 20 and really closing out the match. These couple days of practice are kind of figuring out what we’re doing wrong and trying to capitalize after 20 and where the game is really made."
The defending conference champions have lost four straight and are 7-9 on the season.
"We’ve stayed relatively under control emotionally. I don’t think there’s been any finger pointing or really any animosity on our side, it’s just frustrating. It’s frustrating for our guys; it’s frustrating for our staff. It’s a matter of trying to stay composed, stay positive and keep our focus where it needs to be," said coach Grant Wilson.
On the women’s side, the second-ranked Lady ‘Cats are 12-4 and tied for second-place place in the standings with the Trinity Western Spartans.
The second matches with the Wesmen are Friday night at the Healthy Living Centre.
