Taylor Swift’s influence has officially reached the science world.
Researchers in Australia have named a newly identified group of plant-feeding insects Swiftiephylus as a nod to Swift’s fanbase, the Swifties. Several of the new species also contain references to Taylor’s music, including names inspired by Lover, Fearless, and The Tortured Poets Department.
One of the scientists involved, who also happens to be a longtime Swift fan, said the unusual tribute is meant to draw attention to insect diversity and conservation. As a bonus, she noted the tiny bugs even share Taylor’s signature color palette, sporting pale yellow bodies with red accents.
