Lorne Avenue will be transformed into a car-free community gathering space this Sunday as Open Streets Brandon invites residents to get outside and explore the city in a new way.
Running from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. between Rideau Park and Stanley Park, the event encourages people to walk, bike, roll, and connect while enjoying a wide variety of free activities and demonstrations. Visitors can tune up their bikes with Stream N Wood, explore a fire truck and ambulance courtesy of Brandon Fire & Emergency Services, or take a ride on a mobility trishaw with Brandon Riverbank.
The afternoon will also feature interactive games, mural painting, art activities, a bouncy castle, Zumba sessions, live buskers, adoptable pets, and booths hosted by local organizations including the Brandon General Museum and Archives, the Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba, Prairie Mountain Health, and others.
An open church tour at St. Augustine’s will also be available for those looking to explore a local landmark.
Organizers say the best part is that attendees don’t have to choose just one activity. Participants are encouraged to wander the route and discover whatever catches their eye during the community-focused celebration.
