RCMP have arrested two men following what they described as a “crime spree” in Swan River, which ended with one of the suspects attempting to flee police, getting hit with an “extended range impact weapon” and ultimately surrendering to them soon after.
According to police, they were called to a report of a sexual assault on September 18 at about 10:25 AM. The assault had happened the previous day at a residence in Swan River. They identified two suspects, a 24-year-old male from Swan River and a 30-year-old male from Pine Creek First Nation.
In their release, RCMP said they connected these two suspects with two other recent incidents. On Sept. 15, at about 8:45 p.m., a 38-year-old male was chased by three males through a field near 4th Avenue North. The suspects caught up with and physically assaulted the victim near the skate park. RCMP were alerted to the incident and transported the victim to the Swan Valley Health Centre for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Then, on Sept. 17, at about 6:20 p.m., a break and enter was reported at a residence on Parkview Drive. Multiple males wearing masks were seen exiting a home with a variety of items, placing them in an SUV, and driving away.
According to RCMP, the 30-year-old suspect wanted in all three incidents was located walking on 1st Street South in Swan River on Sept. 18 and arrested without incident. The 24-year-old suspect was located at a residence on 2nd Avenue South later that afternoon. At approximately 5 p.m., the suspect attempted to flee and ignored police instructions to show his hands, resulting in him being struck by an officer with a 40-mm extended range impact weapon. The suspect went back into the home, then surrendered peacefully to officers shortly thereafter.
Marcus George, 24, of Swan River is charged with:
- Sexual assault;
- Forcible confinement;
- Uttering threats;
- Break and enter;
- Aggravated assault; and
- Resisting arrest.
Jericho Flatfoot, 30, of Pine Creek First Nation is charged with:
- Sexual assault;
- Forcible confinement;
- Aggravated assault; and
- Break and enter.
A third suspect was arrested and charged in the skatepark assault. Mackenzie Macdonald, 26, of Swan River is charged with aggravated assault.
None of the charges against any of them have been proven in court and they are presumed innocent.
