From June 9 to September 14, Manitoba Public Insurance said they dealt with more than 40,000 storm-related claims, a new record in a summer that they said created several similar records as well.
According to a release from MPI, the claims from the June 9 hailstorm in Winnipeg alone set a new single-event claims record, and the weather didn’t get much more cooperative from there, prompting new claims centres in Southwestern Manitoba as well. So far, MPI said they’ve processed estimates for 65 per cent of all storm-related claims opened this summer.
In their release, MPI also said they will continue with estimation appointments in Boissevain and Killarney to assist in processing claims related to the July 5 storm in the area. They also said they expect to remain in the region throughout the fall to ensure customers can continue accessing the support they need close to home.
Any customers who have not yet reported damage related to any severe weather event this summer are encouraged to open a claim online or by contacting MPI’s Contact Centre.
