Carberry’s Braden Calvert and his Winnipeg team won the Canadian Junior Men’s Curling Championship on Sunday by beating New Brunswick 7-5 in Sunday’s final.
Calvert and crew stole four in the fourth to hold a 6-2 lead after a missed draw by opposing skip Rene Comeau.
"That end was a little bizarre I guess and we caught just a huge break within it," Calvert told CKLQ’s Tyler Crayston. "I think if he throws that shot again he makes it every time. It would of definitely been a different game going forward, but we hadn’t caught too many breaks all week so we were kind of due I think and we just battled the rest of the game."
Team Manitoba earned a bye into the final after finishing in first-place in the round-robin with a 9-1 record.
They’ll represent Canada at the World Junior Curling Championship in Switzerland next month.
"It’s just an unbelievable feeling to wear that Maple Leaf and to represent Canada. I think we’re still in a little bit of shock right now and I think in a couple of days we’ll get the true feeling of it," said Calvert.
