Russell is rolling out the red carpet for the AA Provincial High School Hockey Championship.
The host Major Pratt Trojans are among the six teams vying for the title with the tournament running Thursday through Saturday.
"There are definitely some butterflies. We’ve been lucky enough to attend provincials the last few years, but haven’t really won anything so hopefully this year is the year," Major Pratt forward Brayden Cullum said on this week’s edition of Monday Sports Talk on 880, CKLQ. "We knew we were hosting from the beginning of the year, but we won our way here too so that feels good obviously."
The Trojans earned the consolation title at last year’s provincials and are looking to win the top prize for the first time since 2001.
The two-time defending champion Neepawa Tigers, Somerset’s Prairie Mountain Predators, Deloraine/Hartney Colts, Melita/Waskada Devils and the Catrwright/Nellie McClung/Pilot Mound Tigers round out the field.
Major Pratt is also in the mix for a double-double as they’ve reached the championship series in the Westman High School Hockey League.
