Brandon, MB (CKLQ) – Team Canada has called on two Brandon Wheat Kings to its selection camp in preparation for the 2018 World Junior Hockey Championship.
Captain Tanner Kaspick will be joined by defenceman Kale Clague, who is one of seven players returning from last year’s team, when they meet in Calgary later this month.
Kaspick has seven goals and 25 points in 24 games this season.
Clague leads all WHL defencemen in scoring this season with ten goals and 40 points in 25 games.
The other returning players include Everett’s Carter Hart and forwards Michael McLeod of Mississauga, Taylor Raddysh of Erie, Kelowna’s Dillon Dube, Jake Bean of the Calgary Hitmen and Dante Fabbro of Boston University.
That leaves 16 spots up for grabs as Hockey Canada will trim the roster down to 23 players.
Other notable players joining the eight returnees at selection camp are OHL leading scorer Jordan Kyrou (Sarnia), WHL leading goal scorer Tyler Steenbergen (Swift Current), Regina Pats centre Sam Steel and Memorial Cup-winning goaltender Michael DiPietro of the OHL’s Windsor Spitfires.
