Virden, MB (CKLQ) – A week ago, the Virden Oil Capitals had their eye on the franchise’s first MJHL championship since they moved to Virden.
Now they’ll have to play catch up, and try to stave off elimination.
The Oil Capitals went up early in the best-of-seven series with two wins to start, and earn a 2-0 series lead.
That has disappeared and now the Oil Capitals trail the Steinbach Pistons 3-2, coming back to Virden.
Virden won the first two games by one goal each (2-1 and 4-3), but have only scored four goals since, losing 5-3, 4-0 and 7-1.
The team was the underdogs coming into the series, but after the first two wins, many though the championship was in reach.
Head Coach Troy Leslie says the team needs to go back to their game plan.
"We’re losing the battles right now, and we did excellent job in them for the first two games," said Leslie.
Luckily, Virden will have their home crowd behind them for Game 6, something Leslie thinks the team will capitalize on.
"The crowd has shown up every game during the playoffs," said Leslie. "Hopefully we can give them something to cheer about early on."
Game starts at 7:30pm at Tundra Oil & Gas Place.
