Brandon, MB (CKLQ) – Over the next few days at the Keystone Centre, Novice, Atom, Peewee and Bantam aged hockey players will be at the first ever Micheal Ferland Hockey School.
The former Brandon Wheat Kings player decided to run a hockey school at his old home, to give kids a chance to learn from the very best.
Along with Ferland coaching the camp, is Vegas Golden Knights’ Zach Whitecloud and New York Islanders’ and former Wheat Kings player Ryan Pulock.
"It’s nice to see them help out for the week," said Ferland. "When I was young, I didn’t really know what camp I was going to, but more about who the instructors were."
The school is giving kids two hours of ice-time a day, and some dry land training and swim sessions as well.
Ferland is coming at the hockey camp only a few weeks after receiving some big news.
The former Calgary Flame was traded to the Carolina Hurricanes back on June 23.
Ferland says he is excited fort he new opportunity.
"I’m looking forward to the new chapter for me and my family," said Ferland. "The team (Hurricanes) look very similar to the Calgary team I joined a couple of years ago when we haven’t been in the playoffs for awhile, but looking to get back."
The Wheat King scored 41 points last year with the Flames.
