Brandon’s Lois Fowler finished atop the round-robin standings at the Canadian Senior Women’s Curling Championship in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories.
A steal of one in the tenth end gave Fowler a 7-6 win over British Columbia’s Penny Shantz on Thursday morning, and then she clinched top spot by scoring four in the seventh end in an 8-3 victory over Newfoundland and Labrador’s Cathy Cunningham on the Thursday evening draw.
Fowler finished with a 10-and-1 record and tied with Saskatchewan’s Lorraine Arguin, but takes top spot thanks to her round-robin win over Arguin on Sunday.
That gives her a bye into Saturday’s final.
Meanwhile, Neepawa’s Kelly Robertson finished with a 9-and-2 record and tied for first-place in the Senior Men’s standings.
Robertson stole four in the fourth in a 10-4 win over B.C’s Wes Craig, and downed the Yukon’s George Hilderman 10-5 in his two games Thursday.
The Manitoba champs tied Nova Scotia’s Alan O’Leary for top spot but will settle for second thanks to their round-robin loss to the bluenosers earlier this week.
That means a spot in Friday night’s semifinal for Robertson.
