Brandon, MB (CKLQ) – Ridly Greig and Ben McCartney combined for five points as the Brandon Wheat Kings knocked off the Medicine Hat Tigers 4-1 on Friday night.
The Wheat Kings fired everything but the kitchen sink at Tigers goalie Jordan Hollett in the first period, finishing with 26 on the shot clock after 20 minutes. For comparison, Brandon had 24 shots on goal in 65:00 on Sunday vs Tri-City. Hollett would finish the night with 49 saves.
Ridly Greig opened the scoring for Brandon in his first game back from the U17’s as he beat Hollett from the top of the circles. Linden McCorrister would make it 2-0 as the Tigers first penalty expired, tapping a loose puck over the goal line for his 4th of the season.
The Wheat Kings came out flat in the 2nd period and the Tigers capitalized. Baxter Anderson scored his first of the season just 1:34 into the middle frame to cut the lead to one. In a complete shift of power, the Tigers outshot Brandon 13-9 in the period.
Ben McCartney would take over in the third period, scoring his 3rd and 4th of the year to seal the victory for Brandon, earning him first star honours in front of 3,487 fans at Westoba Place.
Brandon finished the night with 53 shots on goal, while Ethan Kruger was busy in Brandon’s crease as well, making 34 saves for his second win of the season.
The Wheat Kings move to 10-4-3-3 on the year and will quickly prepare for a Saturday night meeting with the red-hot Prince Albert Raiders. (7:30 at Westoba Place)
