Brandon, MB (CKLQ) – The Prince Albert Raiders scored three powerplay goals and added a league-high 12th shorthanded goal to shutout the Brandon Wheat Kings 6-0 on Saturday night.
The Raiders came out flying in the first period and were aided by five powerplay opportunities on route to a 2-0 lead at the first intermission.
Sean Montgomery opened the scoring on the powerplay 9:34 into the hockey game off a setup from Sergei Sapego. Then, on a five on three advantage, Carson Miller snapped one past Jiri Patera to open up the two-goal lead.
After a scoreless second period, the Raiders exploded for four goals in the third period to pick up their 13th straight victory and move to 20-1-0-0 on the season.
Montgomery (2G), Noah Gregor (1G-1A) and Sapego (3A) led the way for the Raiders who got 26 saves from Ian Scott for his 4th shutout of the year.
Jiri Patera was busy between the pipes for the Wheat Kings, making 40 saves in the losing effort.
The Wheat Kings played just over forty minutes with just five defensemen as Braden Schneider left the game late in the first period and didn’t return to the game. Brandon finished the night 0/5 on the powerplay.
The Wheat Kings will need to have a short memory as they welcome the Edmonton Oil Kings on Wednesday night. (7:00 on QCountry Radio).
