Edmonton, AB (CKLQ) – The Brandon Bobcats men’s volleyball team now controls their destiny when it comes to finishing first in the Canada West standings, after defeating the Alberta Golden Bears 3-1 on Saturday in Edmonton.
The Bobcats won the sets 25-23, 21-25, 25-22 and 25-18.
The second set loss was the first set the team has dropped since the win streak began.
Robin Baghdaddy had 17 kills in the victory, with Elliot Viles second in team scoring with 15 kills.
The number one team in the country improves to 14-2 on the season, and sits first in the Canada West standings.
They are the only team that has two or fewer losses this year.
The win was also historic because the Bobcats became the first team in 19 years to sweep a weekend series against the Golden Bears in Edmonton.
Meanwhile, earlier in the night, the women’s volleyball team was swept in three sets to the Alberta Pandas, 25-21, 25-22 and 26-24.
Nikala Majewski led the Bobcats with 13 kills in the loss.
Only one of the Bobcats team will be playing next week, as the women’s volleyball team will be in Regina taking on the Cougars on Friday and Saturday.
