The Pembina Valley Hawks are one win away from reaching the Esso Cup National Female Midget Hockey Championship.
The Hawks got goals from Altona’s Kate Friesen, Manitou’s Lauryn Keen and Baldur’s Ginny Grenier in a 3-2 win over the host Weyburn Gold Wings to open the Western Regionals.
Pembina Valley can sweep the best-of-three series on Saturday night and return to nationals for the first time since winning the Canadian title in 2012.
The 2014 Esso Cup runs from April 20th to 26th in Hamilton and Stoney Creek, Ontario.
