Olympic gold medalist Jill Officer made a stop in Brandon over the weekend.
Officer had a meet-and-greet at Shoppers Mall Saturday, and was also in town as part of the RBC Royal Bank Olympic program as a dignitary at the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair on Friday.
It’s been nearly six weeks since the Sochi Games concluded, and Officer and her teammates Jennifer Jones, Kaitlyn Lawes and Dawn McEwen became the first team to go undefeated in winning the women’s curling gold medal at the Olympics.
"I’ve said before that Thank God they give you a medal because then it actually makes me realize that we were there, and we accomplished what we went there to accomplish," said Officer, "And thank goodness for pictures too, otherwise it would really be hard to fully grasp the experience that we had."
While the foursome continues to bask in the glow of their gold medal, they still haven’t confirmed whether they’ll stick together for another four years to defend the medal in South Korea in 2018.
"We do have one event left, which we leave for in just over a week, so we need to get back into the groove of practicing and stuff like that so we can go and try to play to our potential. I think after that, we’ll be able to really sit down and talk about whether this is really going to work," said Officer, "I think the way we all feel right now is that it’s really hard to step away, and we really enjoy playing with each other, and we really can’t imagine playing with anyone else."
Here is the full-length interview between Officer and Tyler Crayston from the April 7th edition of Monday Sports Talk.
