Derek Falloon made up for lost time and helped his Yorkton Terriers capture back-to-back titles in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League.
The 21-year-old forward fired three goals and seven points in 14 playoff games during the Terriers’ run this season.
It was a rewarding repeat for the Russell product after being limited to just eight post-season games a year ago due to injury.
"It definitely felt like I contributed a little bit more than I did last year that way because of the injury. Both felt really good to me. I played with a couple young guys this year and they really stepped up and we had some good chemistry in playoffs and it really came through for us," Falloon told CKLQ’s Tyler Crayston.
Falloon and his Terriers, who are coached by Medora product Trent Cassan, swept the Melville Milllionaires in the best-of-seven SJHL Final to advance to the Western Canada Cup in Dauphin.
The tournament is running April 26th to May 4th with Yorkton facing the MJHL champion Winnipeg Blues in their opening game.
"Everybody is playing great and at the top of their game," said Falloon. "We got great veterans and our rookies are really stepping up. We just have a lot of depth on our team."
Yorkton also has to contend with the AJHL champion Spruce Grove Saints, the BCHL champion Coquitlam Express and the host Kings for two spots into the National Junior ‘A’ Hockey Championship from May 10th to 18th in Vernon, B.C.
"It will be tough, but we feel we can pull it off this year and make our way to Vernon," added Falloon.
