The youth sports season in Western Manitoba is just around the corner.
The Brandon Youth Soccer Association has 1,100 kids registered, which is actually down slightly from 2013.
"Our initial push to get people registered for soccer didn’t happen," said BYSA spokesperson Gerry Rocan, "We saw a lot more online stuff, because people were doing it from the warmth of their homes. And then we have a ton of late registrations."
The BYSA will begin their season on May 5th, as will Brandon Minor Baseball Association and the Westman Softball Association.
Meanwhile, just over 300 kids have registered for the Westman Youth Football Association for their spring season.
"I don’t know if we’ve had that before, not even close as far as my recollection goes," says WYFA president Jamie Freiheit, "We’ve got two teams out of Dauphin, a Bantam and a Pee Wee team, and that’ll be a first for the WYFA."
The WYFA season is scheduled to begin May 3rd, though the organization will hold scrimmages this Saturday (April 26th).
The scrimmages will be used to evaluate the players to determine their teams.
