Brandon University women’s volleyball coach Lee Carter is getting the chance to wear the maple leaf.
The reigning CIS coach of the year has been named an assistant with the national women’s volleyball team for the summer.
"It’s always an honour," Carter told CKLQ’s Tyler Crayston. "For me, this is the first time I’ve had the chance to be a part of the A program on a regular basis. I’ve been a guest coach and head and assistant coach of the B team, but this is the first real chance I get to sit on the bench during an A team competition and I’m excited for it."
Carter and the national team are competing in the Pan Am Cup in Mexico in June with the current Canadian roster including Brandonite Lisa Barclay and Dauphin’s Tabi Love.
"Every time I walk through the door into one of the Canada practices, every single time the feeling doesn’t change. You get goose bumps," said Carter. "You’re with the best athletes in our country and they’re there for the same reason. It’s really an amazing feeling to be a part of that."
Carter worked on international assignment with Canada during the 2011 World University Games.
