The Brandon University women’s basketball team has rounded out their recruiting class for the 2014-2015 Canada West season with the addition of 5-foot-8 guard Kylee Howard.
"I think Kylee is going to bring some immediate help at the point guard position and gives us some depth there. I think she’s a smart player and she’s very keen at understanding the game, which is great when you have your point guard who wants to be that type of person," coach Novell Thomas told CKLQ’s Tyler Crayston.
Howard comes to the Lady ‘Cats after transferring from the Alberta College ranks where she spent last season with the Medicine Hat Rattlers and led her team in three-pointers, while serving in a starting role.
"She has a lot of growth ahead of her, but she’s keen on growing. By no means is she content with where she’s at as a basketball player," added Thomas.
"I honestly didn’t know too much about Brandon University before, but after visiting the school and talking with Novell I’ve definitely made the right decision," Howard told www.gobobcats.ca. "I’m really looking forward to meeting new people and having the opportunity to play university basketball. Playing university basketball has been a goal of mine, so I hope to make the most of it."
Howard joins Americans Mikaela Stanton and Alyssa Montgomery along with Westman high school stars Logan Biccum, Natalie Vachon and Shayna Mathison as BU newcomers for this fall.
"We’re happy with who we are bringing in and the depth that it looks like we’ll have. We wanted to have a competitive kind of spirit within our team and I think when we have that type of depth it will only encourage competition and the end result with benefit us," said Thomas.
Brandon went 6-16 in conference play this past season, which is programs highest win total in 30 years.
