– TSN is expanding from two to five national feeds. According to a release on Tuesday, TSN’s suite of channels will deliver a slate of expanded programming, including the ability to schedule SportsCentre to serve multiple time zones. To be branded TSN1, TSN2, TSN3, TSN4, and TSN5, all five TSN feeds will be available this fall. All TSN feeds will also be available to subscribers both online and through mobile devices via TSN GO.
– The road to the Memorial Cup continues Tuesday night in all three of Canada’s major junior leagues. The Edmonton Oil Kings host the Portland Winterhawks in game three of the Western Hockey League final, with Portland holding a two games to none lead. In Ontario, the North Bay Battalion an Guelph Storm are tied 1-1 heading into game three in North Bay Tuesday while Baie-Comeau and Val d’Or are tied at a game apiece in the QMJHL final heading into game three Tuesday.
– Jonathan Quick stopped 36 shots, including all 15 his way in the third period, as the Los Angeles Kings beat the Anaheim Ducks 3-1 to take a 2-0 series lead in their Western Conference semifinal. The Kings have won six games in a row after dropping three straight to the San Jose Sharks to open the first round. Meanwhile, Marc-Andre Fleury made 35 saves as Pittsburgh shutout New York 2-0 to take a 2-1 series lead in its Eastern Conference semifinal. Sidney Crosby scored the winner in the second period, his first goal in 13 playoff games.
– Brandon product Ryan White could draw into Montreal’s lineup Tuesday night for Game Three of their Eastern Conference semifinal against Boston. White centred a line with Dale Weise and Travis Moen in practice Monday, but Habs’ coach Michel Therrien wouldn’t reveal his lineup so we’ll have to wait until closer to game time to find out if White will make his first appearance of the 2014 playoffs. White had two goals and six points in 52 games with Montreal during the regular season.
– Bruxelles Cassidy Carels is one of four Westman players that’ll be camping out with Hockey Canada this week. Carels is coming off her freshmen season with the Providence College Friars, scoring 14 goals and 21 points in 35 games and being named to the Hockey East All-Rookie Team. Carels will be joined at the Hockey Canada Strength and Conditioning Camp by former Pembina Valley Hawks’ teammate Brittni Mowat, Brandon product Ashleigh Brykaliuk and Neepawa’s Halli Krzyzaniak. – Brandon product Keegan Treloar is hoping to put his right foot forward when he competes in the CIS Football East West bowl this Saturday. The Concordia Stingers’ kicker will be suiting up for Team West at the annual showcase of some of the Canadian University’s top football players. Treloar hit 11 of 14 field goals in his third season at Concordia last fall, with his 79 per cent success rate being sixth-best in the CIS. – Brandon’s Dustin Schneider and Rivers’ Toon Van Lankvelt are included on Canada’s 22-player roster for the Volleyball World League that begins later this month. The duo helped Canada to a best-ever fifth-place finish in the World League a year ago. Canada will play World League matches in Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver in late May and June, but first will host a World Championship qualifier on the May long weekend. Canada will host Panama, Costa Rica and Trinidad and Tobago in Pool Q, with the winner of the Mississauga tournament earning a spot in the World Championship in Italy.
– Virden Golden Bears’ star basketball player Heidi Smith has committed to the University of Saskatchewan Huskies women’s basketball program. The 5-foot-7 guard was the MVP of the Provincial AAA High School Championship in March, leading the Golden Bears to their first ever AAA title. She’ll red-shirt in her initial year with the reigning Canada West champion Huskies.
– Tiger Woods says his recovery from back surgery is going slowly and the world’s top-ranked player says he’s not sure when he’ll be able to return to golf. In a wide-ranging blog on his website, Woods says he remains sore from the incision during the March 31 operation for a pinched nerve. The surgery forced him to miss the Masters for the first time. He has said he hopes to return this summer.
