Medora product Trent Cassan and his Yorkton Terriers are looking to complete the hat-trick.
The SJHL and Western Canada Cup champions are vying for the RBC Cup in Vernon, B.C. with the five-team tournament starting this weekend.
It’s a chance for the Terriers to make history and clinch their first-ever national junior ‘A’ hockey championship.
"This has been the fifth time that our program has been there. The last time the Terriers were there in 2006, they lost in the finals of the RBC. I believe in our guys and we believe in each other that if we can play our best hockey for five-six games then we give ourselves a good chance to compete for that national championship," coach Cassan told CKLQ’s Tyler Crayston.
Cassan and his Terriers play the Toronto Lakeshore Patriots in their opening round-robin game on Sunday with the host Vipers, Dauphin Kings and Carleton Place Canadians also in the mix.
"Our guys have earned everything to this point, we’ve worked hard to get to this point, and so have the other four teams to get here," said Cassan. "As a coach you try not to let your mind wander too much as far as the end result, more focusing on the process of everyday of the tournament of getting the guys prepared and making sure we’re ready to go each day."
On the injury front, the status of Yorkton forward and Russell product Derek Falloon is up in the air after suffering a concussion in the Terriers’ opening game at the Western Canada Cup.
"He’s been skating lightly here a little bit, and obviously with us not playing until Sunday I know he’s hopeful that he can get in and play," said Cassan. "It’s something where we have to take precautions to make sure that he’s going to be at 100 percent and not step into the lineup too soon and something happens that he can’t continue to play."
Falloon fired seven goals and 20 points in 57 regular season and playoff games.
