Denham Buchanan of Toronto is bringing his talents to the Brandon Bobcats this fall.
"I think he’s someone that with his talent, his character, I think we can build with him. He’s another piece to the puzzle as we try to move forward," coach Gil Cheung told CKLQ’s Tyler Crayston."
Buchanan’s been around the basketball block.
The 6-foot-3 guard played a year of junior college in Oklahoma, before spending 2012-2013 with the OUA’s Waterloo Warriors.
Buchanan missed all of last season with a foot injury, but is back to full speed and will be entering his third year of eligibility.
"He gives us depth on the wing, can guard multiple positions, can score in transition and I think he provides veteran leadership, great work ethic and we’re really looking forward to having him in our program," said Cheung. "He’s seen multiple defences; he’s had very good coaching. That work ethic and the understanding how to play the game, his basketball IQ definitely helps right away."
Buchanan joins B.C. product Ryan Cowley as newcomers to BU for the 2014-2015 Canada West campaign.
"I’ve always been a competitor and have always wanted to play at the highest level possible, and the CIS is the highest level in Canada which is something I really want to be a part of. The West is filled with tough teams and guys that play at a very high level. I know that with hard work and with the help of coach it will be a very successful year," Buchanan told gobobcats.ca.
