Top prospects are going to be front and center at the upcoming NHL combine with a trio of local stars among the 101 players invited.
Elkhorn’s Travis Sanheim along with Jayce Hawryluk and John Quenneville of the Brandon Wheat Kings are off to Toronto for interviews and fitness testing from May 26th to 31st.
"This is going to be the first chance to be with all the guys that are going to be at the top of the list when it comes draft time. Going up against them and competing against them and then even just NHL teams and being able to all them and interviews and all that goes on there. It’ll be a great experience," Sanheim told CKLQ’s Tyler Crayston.
Sanheim had five goals and 25 points in his rookie season with the Calgary Hitmen.
Hawryluk had 24 goals and 64 points to lead the Wheat Kings in scoring, while Quenneville notched 25 goals and 58 points.
The trio helped Canada bring back a bronze medal from the World Under-18 Hockey Championship late last month.
"It’s getting real crazy," said Sanheim. "Being able to represent Canada at U18’s and now going off to the combine and then eventually hopefully the draft. It doesn’t seem real at the time, but it’s starting to and I’m looking forward to it."
The 2014 NHL Entry Draft is being held in Philadelphia on June 27th and 28th.
