Russell product Derek Falloon was the overtime hero at the RBC Cup National Junior ‘A’ Hockey Championship as the Yorkton Terriers downed the Dauphin Kings 2-1 in a must-win to close out the round-robin.
"I had to say that’s probably the biggest one yet, playing on a national basis here and to keep us alive, it’s just awesome," said Falloon.
The Terriers are now 3-0 against the Kings in their recent stretch of head-to-head meetings, with Yorkton dropping Dauphin twice en route to winning the Western Canada Cup.
"Every time we’ve had to play Dauphin so far, it’s must-win and the boys have always beared down and just pulled through," added Falloon, who has returned to the Terriers’ lineup after suffering a concussion.
The Terriers, who are coached by Medora’s Trent Cassan, finished with a record of 2-2, while the first-place Kings went 3-1.
Both teams advance to the playoffs with Yorkton taking on the host Vernon Vipers, while Dauphin is going up against the Carleton Place Canadians in the semifinals on Saturday.
The championship game is set for Sunday at the National Junior ‘A’ Hockey Championship.
