There’ll be a stiffer penalty for dropping the mitts in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League next season.
The one-and-done fighting rule is returning to Junior A Leagues across Canada after being approved at Hockey Canada’s annual general meeting over the weekend.
The rule means if you are assessed a fighting major, you are also given a game misconduct.
Junior A leagues voted 9-1 in favour of the rule, with the Alberta Junior Hockey League the only league to vote no.
Previously, players had to incur two fights in one game to be tossed from the contest.
There’ll be a couple of other rule changes for the MJHL next season.
A puck shot directly over the glass from the defensive zone won’t result in a penalty, but the offending team will not be able to change players.
Teams will also be denied a line change after icing the puck from the defensive zone.
The CJHL also awarded the 2016 RBC Cup to Lloydminster at their AGM over the weekend.
Portage will host the 2015 National Junior A Championship.
