The City of Brandon has announced that Councillor John LoRegio is resigning effective January 31, 2021.
Councillor Loregio provided the following statement to Mayor Rick Chrest, members of Council and to the residents of Ward 5 – Meadows-Waverly:
“Mayor Rick Chrest, City Council and Ward 5 residents:
Effective January 31st, I am resigning as Councillor for Ward 5, Meadows-Waverly. A health issue has forced me to make this decision. Ward residents deserve a Councillor’s full attention which I feel I can’t provide at this time.
I would like to thank Mayor and Council for all the help this last 8 years. Most importantly thanks to the residents for your support and friendship.”
Councillor LoRegio was first elected during a by-election for Meadows Ward 5 on June 26, 2013 and subsequently reelected during the municipal elections of October 22, 2014 and October 24, 2018.
Consistent with the Manitoba Municipal Act, when council vacancies arise with more than 12 months remaining in a term, a municipality is obliged to conduct a by-election to fill the vacancy. Consequently, a by-election for Ward 5 Meadows-Waverly will occur in the near future.
