Art* as Activism Event & Workshop Series at the AGSM

Join the AGSM in March 2025 for a programming arc that calls on the transformative social potential of art*. All of these events are free to attend, RSVPs are encouraged and donations will be welcomed where noted.
Friday, March 7, 7 PM • The Right to be Known
Presented by Brandon University Philosophy, this event explores a fundamental and often overlooked right to which people who have suffered human rights abuses are entitled. Before legal or financial reparations, victims have the right to be seen and heard–to have their stories listened to. Participants will join artist Bruno de Oliveira Jayme in creating a collaborative work of art that makes literal the metaphor of our individual uniqueness and personal stories gathering into a rich and generative whole.
Saturday, March 22, 7 PM • Transfixed
Transfixed is an experimental queer music duo comprising Koda Maxon (they/them) and Nora Wilson (she/her). Through the weaving of electronically generated and altered sounds, vocals, and trombone, they create visceral sonic tapestries portraying their lived experiences as gender diverse people. Audiences are invited to sit with not only the violence and discrimination that gender diverse folks often face, but also the beauty and serenity of authenticity amplified through defiant acceptance of self.
Saturday, March 15 and Saturday, March 29, 1 PM • Picket Sign Workshop
In the face of deep injustice, silence is collaboration, and images can scream. Artist Marin Curtis will bring participants on a survey of historical propagandistic posters and teach them about effective compostion and the potentcy of language as they create their own posters to join in the fight.
