A Brandon man, who allegedly broke into a garage on the North Hill to steal bikes, a lap top and a bar fridge, was busted early Sunday morning after apparently returning to the scene of the crime to look for lost keys (June 14).
According to police, the suspect hid some items nearby while taking others to his apartment. Once there, he realized he’d lost his keys, and couldn’t get into his apartment building – so he used a rock to smash the front glass door of the complex, but still had no keys to his apartment.
Police say the suspect then returned to the garage that he broke into earlier in search of his lost keys, and was then apprehended by the homeowner. When police arrived, the suspect allegedly kicked one of the officers as he was being taken into custody. The officer was not injured. They say the suspect was intoxicated and in breach of two conditions of an Undertaking.
The 20-year-old man was arrested for Break, Enter and Theft, Fail to comply with Undertaking X2, Mischief to Property Under $5000 and Assault Peace Officer and is to appear in court in September.
