The City of Brandon won’t be fogging for those pesky mosquitoes any time soon as the first week of surveillance has yielded low trap counts.
Officials say the averages among the five traps last Saturday (May 30) and Sunday (May 31) were 17 and 53 respectively, with the Municipal Cemetery trap yielding the most, 65 and 105.
The City says there are a number of factors that will lead to fogging including if the average of any daily mosquito trap count is more than 1,000 OR if any individual trap count is more than 2,000 mosquitoes.
The Mosquito Abatement program relies largely on larval control methods, with standing pools of water closely monitored and then treated with larvicide, based on an average of samples in a particular area of standing water.
