Light Shines Brightest in the Deepest Dark

COVID’S MET ITS MATCH

“LIGHT SHINES BRIGHTEST IN THE DEEPEST DARK” – Jim Butcher

To say 2020 has been “dark”…is like saying we need oxygen to live. Two statements that are pretty darn true. Our communities have been ravaged by Covid-19 in every sense possible. We’ve been isolated from loved ones. We’ve had to DRASTICALLY change our daily routines. Our mindsets and emotions have been put to the ultimate test. And economically…we have NEVER struggled so, as we are right now. These have been unprecedented times, but with help…they will also be our brightest.

SOCIAL SERVICES STRAINED

The weight that has been burdened on our Social Services Agencies is equivalent to Atlas carrying the sky on his shoulders. It’s heavy and getting harder to hold. Many families could not and cannot afford Covid’s effects. Students being forced home from college…accessibility for seniors being lost…and those who already face barriers like poverty, homelessness and social isolation need even MORE help. CERB and EI has kept most families on their feet…but instead of wobbly legs, we need to provide a strong sense of stability. That’s where YOU and the United Way of Brandon have become more than just essential…but a lifeline.

WHERE THERE’S A WILL, THERE’S THE UNITED WAY

Unprecedented times call for stronger partnerships. During the pandemic, the United Way of Brandon has risen above and beyond to build the necessary bridges to carry those affected…above the rough waters. They have…

  • Connected a network of grassroots organizations and government agencies to provide individuals and families with essential services.
  • Continue to invest each month into those organizations to ensure our most vulnerable receive the needs they require.
  • Created an Emergency Response Fund in March. And thanks to you, they have invested over $40,000 in rapid response emergency funding since its inception.
  • Supplied funds for groceries, bill payments, gift cards…as well as supporting local organizations such as the Women’s Resource Centre…Friendship Centre…Helping Hands Soup Kitchen…YWCA...the list is as long as the needs of our communities.

The dollars you provide are working HARDER than ever and as donations continue to come in, the United Way is committed to a quick turnaround to get those back out into the community where they’re needed most.

WE WILL RECOVER

In our lifetime, we have never experienced such adversity as we are right at this moment. But we are a strong community. A generous community. A community that sticks together no matter what obstacles tend to block our path. We just need to help each other to get there. United…we will find our way. After all, “light shines brightest in the deepest dark” – Jim Butcher.
